| Our first letter, dated December 1, 05 - from a sewing machine recipient. This letter was written in Tamil, and has been translated. Respected Ladies, Vanakkam (Greetings)! I got a sewing machine from professor Selvaraj on August 31, 2004, donated by you. Thanks to your gift, I'm able to stay home with my family, and earn money in a respectful manner. We are very poor folks, and your charity has given us great happiness. I'm able to earn a lot, especially during festival times. I am requesting you to please help poor women like me, again and again. Thank you. Sincerely, P. Kalaimathi, Tuticorin. |

| Imayam High School, the poor rural school that we support educates children from 7 villages in the area. There are 175 students in the school. Most of the homes in these villages are mud huts with thatched roofs and these huts have no running water or electricity. The people are very poor farm workers, and most families earn about 300 dollars a year. Most of the children walk 2 to 5 kilometers each way to school. Some have old bicycles which have been donated by a charitable organization in Tamil Nadu. The school provides the children free tuition, free books and 2 sets of uniforms and mid-day lunches every day. The school also has summer camps and teaches them computer skills. |
Thanks to Kolam Charitable Foundation, Imayam School is adding 11th grade for the school year starting June 2008, and will add 12th grade the following year. Students will have opportunities for college education, professional jobs etc. Our sponsorship program provides funds for college. |
