About Kauai, our beautiful island
Kauai is a small island (553 square miles) in the middle of the Pacific ocean, and is in
the State of Hawaii in the United States of America. Geologically, it's the oldest major
island in the Hawaiian chain, and it is about 5 million years old. Maui, Oahu, Big Island
of Hawaii, Molokai, Lanai, and Ni'ihau form the other major islands of Hawaii.

The weather is tropical, the interior of the island is mountainous, with deeply eroded
valleys and plains around the coastal areas. The beaches are among the most
beautiful ones on earth, with its deep blue and turquoise waters and golden sandy
shores. Rainbows, streams, wooded forests, fern groves, pineapple fields, tropical
flowers, taro fields, giant mango trees, murungai trees laded with murungai kai, swaying
coconut palms and banana trees are among the many sights of the island.

Kauai has the world's wettest spot in Mount Wai'ale'ale (meaning 'rippling waters' in the
Hawaiian language), which is in the center of the island. An average of 440 inches of
rain falls here. The only navigable river in Hawaii is Wailua in Kauai. The core of Kauai
many square miles of rain forests and splendid peaks.

The first immigrants arrived in the Hawaiian islands around the fourth century A.D., and
they are said to have arrived from the Marquesas Islands, which are 2500 miles away.
Subsequent groups have arrived in the island over the next 1500 years and today the
Hawaiian islands boasts a kaleidoscope of cultures from all over the world. The native
Hawaiians, Portuguese, Japanese, Filipinos, Chinese, Americans and others form the
population. Hawaiian language, art, music, dance and culture are celebrated in the
islands today.

Kauai has a population of about 60 thousand people, and most of the people have the
spirit of hospitality which is called 'Aloha' in the Hawaiian language. Tourism is the
major industry and tourists come from Japan, Europe, China, Mainland America and
other places. Surfing, scuba diving, snorkeling, hiking, horse riding are some of the
popular tourist activities.

Hawaii looks very much like Kerala and Courtallam of Tamil Nadu. Ayurveda and Yoga
are practiced here to a great extent.

healing gifts help all"
